Ness Engineering Ltd has been announced as a sponsor for The Tall Ships Races visit to Lerwick in July. The company are providing in-kind support by installing and maintaining the showers and toilets - an essential requirement for the event to run smoothly.
When Ness Engineering heard The Tall Ships Races were returning to Lerwick they leapt at the chance to support the event, having been involved during previous events. The company are always enthusiastic to support the Shetland community through sponsorship and other means. They currently sponsor a multitude of charities, local groups, local sports clubs, teams, and individuals. This includes but is not limited to Ness United Football Club; Shetland Ladies Netball Team; Southend Under 5’S; Shetland Relay for Life; Shetland Young Farmers; Taste of Shetland; Overtonlea Care Centre and South Mainland Up Helly Aa!
Ness Engineering also supports the community by having created and sustained a company that values its employees and celebrates their achievements. They focus on the continual personal development of their staff through high standards and staff training. Most importantly they provide sought-after apprenticeships for the next generation of engineers in Shetland, with young people seen as a key part of the company’s future. They also employ local sub-contractors and use local suppliers, furthering their help within the Shetland community, whenever possible.
The business also helps the community by focusing on its environmental impact. They recognise the responsibility they have, to reduce the impact they make on the environment as well as make sure the work they do leaves a legacy for the communities they work within. They continually work towards reducing their carbon emissions whilst also providing products and services to clients to reduce their emissions. A few examples of this are moving to paperless reporting, using a Biomass boiler for their own heating and hot water at their headquarters and installing electric vehicle chargers for many of its clients. Recent investments in plant hire fleet have included Eco welfare cabins and solar-powered generator setups have increased sustainable options for site essentials.
Welfare services make up only a small part of what Ness Engineering can do. With over 35 year’s experience as an Electrical, Mechanical and Building Services contractor, Ness can offer a “one-stop shop” facilities management service tailored to suit clients’ maintenance requirements. Ness cover buildings from Fair Isle to Unst so a Ness van is never far away in a client emergency.
All in all, Ness Engineering is a company that supports the Shetland community in many ways, by creating a positive work environment, providing jobs and apprenticeships, pushing their staff to continually develop, supporting local charities, groups, sports clubs, teams, and individuals through sponsorship and by focusing heavily on reducing their environmental impact. All of us here at Shetland Tall Ships LTD are thrilled to have them helping with the event.
