THERE is still time for anyone interested in being a volunteer at the Tall Ships this summer to get involved.
Shetland Tall Ships Ltd. is still looking to recruit VIP liaison officers, stewards, marshals and event information advisors for the four-day event, running from 26-29 July.
The deadline for applications is 31 January and, while there has been a very healthy response to date, with over 150 volunteers required in all organisers are encouraging anyone interested to get in touch.
Many people who volunteered when the Tall Ships Races came to Lerwick in 1999 and 2011 found the experience so rewarding that they have signed up again this time.
Roles still to be filled include stewards and marshals to work across the various event sites and assist with marshalling during the Crew Parade.
Liaison volunteers are being sought for a dedicated crew centre in central Lerwick, which will operate from 10am to 8pm each day from Tuesday 25 July before closing at lunchtime on Saturday 29 July.
Event information advisors are being sought to provide guidance to the general public relating to activities and event schedules, as well as selling programmes and merchandise.
Sail Training International, which manages the wider Tall Ships Races, will be based in Lerwick during the event and will also require liaison assistance and support with local information and knowledge.
Volunteers are also needed to provide liaison for VIP guests including sponsors, visiting artists and invited guests for various events and locations.
