ENERGY company TotalEnergies is the latest firm to be confirmed as one of the host port sponsors for this summer’s Tall Ships Races.
The company will be providing volunteers from within its own staff to help deliver the event, which stops in Lerwick from 26-29 July. They will also be sponsoring the official branded clothing to be worn by stewards, marshals and event site volunteers.
TotalEnergies operates the Shetland Gas Plant, which opened in 2016 and processes gas from the vast Laggan and Tormore fields to the North West of Shetland.
The company was also a sponsor when the Tall Ships last visited Lerwick in 2011. At that time the gas plant, capable of supplying energy to two million homes, was still under construction.
TotalEnergies’ West of Shetland asset director Jeannie Dannock said: “At TotalEnergies we feel privileged to be a host port sponsor for the Tall Ships Races in Lerwick again this year.
“In particular, we welcome the opportunity the event gives us to come together with the community we’ve felt part of since we began working here in 2009, and to support young people participating in the race through Sail Training International.
“Our sponsorship aligns really well with our aim to provide opportunities and support for young people and to be an active participant in the communities in which we operate.”
Shetland Tall Ships Ltd. project manager Emma Miller said: “TotalEnergies is a well-known company in Shetland and we are delighted to have them on board supporting event volunteers with the provision of branded clothing, and volunteers from their own staff teams to help deliver the event.”
