Emma Miller has been appointed by Shetland Tall Ships Limited as Project Manager for Lerwick’s role in the Tall Ships Races 2023.
With past experience culminating in launching Réalta Events Management in 2017, Emma brings a wealth of skills and local knowledge to Shetland hosting the prestigious Tall Ships Races from 26-29 July 2023.
The Tall Ships Races, organised by Sail Training International, provides sail training opportunities for young people aged 15-25 on a fleet of spectacular vessels. The aims are to foster international friendships and provide life changing experiences for young people.
This will be the backdrop to a range of opportunities for community participation and enjoyment with a four-day festival at Lerwick showcasing the best of Shetland on an international stage.
Malcolm Bell, Chairman of Shetland Tall Ships Limited, said “We are delighted to welcome Emma to the role which is a key step in delivery of the plans for the Tall Ships event.
“Although we have the experience of having hosted the Races twice before, this time around there is less than two years to prepare following 18 months of uncertainty. As we move through recovery and renewal, the event will be a positive focus which we very much look forward to working on with Emma”.
Emma Miller said “I am very proud and excited to have been appointed to deliver the Lerwick Tall Ships event for the sail trainees, visiting crews, visitors and the people of Shetland. After the last 18 months we all need something to look forward to and this will undoubtedly be a positive and much anticipated event in our community which will be remembered for many years to come.”
A Tall Ships project office will be established in the coming weeks and points of contact for the event will then be available.
