ORGANISERS have issued a request to ticket holders for three sold-out Tall Ships concerts later this month that wristbands must be collected in advance.
Anyone attending the three ticketed events – Tide Lines (Thursday 27 July), Peat & Diesel (Friday 28 July) and Queen II (Saturday 29 July) – needs a wristband in order to access the Holmsgarth site each night.
Wristbands can be collected from Mareel between 10am-4pm on the weekends of Saturday 15/Sunday 16 and Saturday 22/Sunday 23 July.
Thereafter they will be available from the information point at Victoria Pier during the Tall Ships event, which runs from 26-29 July.
Entertainment at Holmsgarth during the day – along with Wednesday night’s opening concert with the Peatbog Faeries – will be free entry. The full music programme on Victoria Pier will also be free of charge.
Official programmes will be available to buy in some local shops from Monday 17 July.
Shetland Tall Ships Ltd project manager Emma Miller said organisers are advising people to keep any personal bags to a minimum as searches will be carried out for the safety of all participants. Alcohol must not be brought onto any of the event sites.
“All large bags will be subject to search and people should avoid bringing anything they don’t need with them to the event sites,” she said.
“This will help us to keep queuing times to an absolute minimum and ensure the event is the safe and enjoyable spectacle everyone wants it to be.”
A shuttle bus will operate between the event sites and park-and-ride sites at Sound School, South Lochside and the Anderson High School. Further details are available on the Tall Ships Lerwick website.
Miller added: “The website is going to be updated on a regular basis in the coming days, so we would urge anyone planning to attend to keep an eye out for practical details about accessing the event sites and what will be happening across the four days.”
Meanwhile excitement continues to build as a total of 76 trainees from Shetland and elsewhere in Scotland get ready to set off to Fredrikstad in Norway next weekend.
They are joining the Cruise in Company leg of this year’s Tall Ships Races in the Norwegian port, with the vessels due to arrive in Lerwick on Wednesday 26 July.
A further 24 trainees will depart with the fleet on Saturday 29 July for the third and final racing leg to the Norwegian port of Arendal.
